Job description
Russell and Dawson Inc. is currently seeking talented and motivated Intern architects to take an active role in developing high-quality building designs as part of a growing, dynamic, and collaborative project team at our East Hartford Office.
Responsibilities:
- Reports to Director of Design and/or Project Manager
- Coordinates with Architects, Sub consultants, and Clients
- Work week of 40 hours, attend staff meetings, record time daily and submit timesheet weekly, comply with published policy
- Existing conditions survey and documentation: take photographs, take measurements, compile existing drawings, prepare base drawings
- Assist in the preparation of proposals and statements of qualification
- Programming space and use: uses to be accommodated, space needed for each, relationships between uses, level of design, level of finishes, standards for furniture, fixtures, and equipment
- Code compliance: applicable codes, construction type, occupancy, height & area, means of egress, accessibility, plumbing fixtures, building systems, fire protection, COMcheck
- Zoning compliance: applicable regulations, occupancy, massing
- Site planning: setbacks, parking, landscaping, lighting, accessibility
- LEED Certification: document point system and recommend strategies to achieve the desired level
- Criterion (Schematic) Design: floor plans, sections and elevations, interior and exterior
- Product research and documentation for function and code compliance
- Coordinate the work of sub-consultants and client’s other consultants
- Detailed Design (Design Development): detail building envelope, including joints and penetrations
- Implementation (Construction) drawings: detail all conditions, opening schedules, finish schedules;
- complete annotation including dimensions, notes, keynotes, and indicators for openings and details
- Technical specifications: write concise basis of design specifications for drawings
- Permitting: Respond to plan review comments
- Bidding: Pre-bid conference, respond to requests for information
- Construction observation: attend job meetings, respond to requests for information, review submittals
- Project Closeout: prepare punch list
Skills and Experience:
Required:
- Master of Architecture from an NAAB accredited college or university
- 0 to 1 year employment in an architectural firm
- Proficiency in Revis
Desired:
- Project management experience
- Enrollment in NCARB AXP Architectural Experience Program
- Work for government and commercial clients, especially in Aviation
- LEED AP or documentation for certification of at least one completed LEED project
- Ability to use AutoCAD, AHCA, Sketch-Up, Photoshop, InDesign, and Microsoft office products
- Salary negotiable based on qualifications
